2019 REVIEW

PICTFOR has seen huge success in 2019 thanks in large part to our active industry members and our Parliamentary Officers. In January, we held the Parliamentary launch of the ICO’s report, discussing data, transparency and trust with Elizabeth Denham CBE, Information Commissioner and hosted by Daniel Zeichner MP, PICTFOR Officer and Chair of the APPG for Data Analytics.

We hosted a CEO forum dinner with Robert Jenrick MP, Exchequer Secretary to HM Treasury to discuss what strategic investment was needed to support the UK digital economy. Anneliese Dodds MP, Shadow Treasury Minister also spoke at the event and participated in a wide-ranging roundtable discussion on global trends in tech innovation in the UK, how this supports the growth of the UK’s digital economy, and how we ensure all citizens are included.

In partnership with the Co-Chairs of the Cross-Party Parliamentary Commission on Technology Ethics, Darren Jones MP and Lee Rowley MP, we held a roundtable which discussed online harms and tech policy in an ever-changing digital world with notable speakers from the ICO, the Centre for Data Ethics, and the Institute for the Future of Work.

Our Summer Reception, sponsored by Nominet and Sky, was more successful than ever with Health Secretary Matt Hancock MP and the newly appointed Director of the Ada Lovelace Institute Carly Kind speaking. TechUK’s Julian David introduced the many demos of emerging tech present at the reception, highlighting the UK’s innovative ability.

These were just a selection of our events in 2019. Thank you to all our industry members and Parliamentarian Officers who made these events possible.

We look forward to continuing to be one of the most active, diverse and engaging APPGs throughout 2020.
