Panel event – How does the UK become the leader in 5G?

May 9 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

More and more of the devices we use every day are connected. The move towards the Internet of Things is set to reduce costs and improve efficiency. Many believe that in order to fully capitalise on these advantages the seamless connectivity between devices is paramount. How can we ensure that 5G and universal connectivity are available across the UK – and what regulations will ensure efficient UK-wide rollout?

Held in partnership with the APPG for Broadband and Digital Connectivity and the Institution of Engineering and Technology, this event will cover the following topics:

  • Innovative policy and regulations for future communications, particularly given increased connectivity and the IoT.  This will include Government, Ofcom, and local Government reforms to reduce the unit cost of a small cell considering planning, site rents, spectrum sharing and changing the competition model to allow a neutral hosting approach.
  • 5G and general UK connectivity including mobile coverage, universal broadband, full fibre, taking 5G indoors at 3.6 GHz through spectrum sharing and customer service
  • Self-help in communications, particularly in rural areas
