Roundtable – What are the most important topics in tech ethics right now?

April 17 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Opening up big data in our public, financial and security services brings with it legislative and ethical challenges.Whether discussing the greater use of data in transport, healthcare, cybersecurity, or financial services, the discussion always centres on balancing the opening up and leverage of big data, with consumer privacy and the security of personal data. These ethical challenges around the use of technology pose important questions that the commercial sector, parliament and government have a role in addressing.

This event forms the beginning of an exciting and timely potential new inquiry – run by the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Data Analytics (APGDA) – into the ethical challenges posed by technology today. This roundtable will highlight various ethical issues that the APGDA hope to take forward in an inquiry setting to investigate in more depth.

Pictfor are thrilled to support the APGDA as they begin this work on technology ethics.

About The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Data Analytics (APGDA)

The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Data Analytics (APGDA), founded in 2016 and chaired by Daniel Zeichner MP, have been working to bring together the digital sector and parliamentarians from all political parties to discuss the legislative challenges around big data. Whether discussing the greater use of data in transport, healthcare, cybersecurity, or financial services, the discussion always centres on balancing the opening up and leverage of big data, with consumer privacy and the security of personal data.

About the Inquiry

Ethical challenges around the use of technology pose important questions that the commercial sector, parliament and government have a role in addressing. That is why the APGDA is happy to collaborate with Pictfor on this technology ethics roundtable. This roundtable will highlight various ethical issues that the APGDA hope to take forward in an inquiry setting to investigate in more depth. Over 9-12 months the inquiry will bring together industry stakeholders with government bodies and parliamentarians to discuss real-world ethical issues posed by technology today, and routes to overcome them to ensure the UK remains at the forefront of the global digital revolution.
