Event: PICTFOR hosts Twitter “teach-in” to 50 Parliamentarians

Twitter’s Adam Sharp gave a fascinating  “teach in” to 50 parliamentarians at the PICTFOR meeting held in the Grand Committee room in the House of Commons last night.  Eric Joyce MP  introduced @AdamS to Members from both Houses who were keen to learn more about the Twitter phenomenum and how “The open exchange of information can have a postive effect on the world”.

Using the hash tag #pictfor … parliamentarians tweeted and RT (re-tweeted) to their heart’s content…“The Lord sitting next to me, who must be well into his eighties. just signed himself up to twitter! #legend

The audience heard that the secret to success on Twitter is to “just be yourself: twitter users just see through anything else”.

 statistics to note:
  • 1 in 5 heads of State globally have twitter accounts
  • 100 million twitter accounts (twice the number since last year)
MPs learned how to search tweets on Twitter covering policy issues of concern within their constituencies.

“Twitter has the ability to demistify the institutions of government and to humanise politicians”
