PICTFOR Summer Reception 2013
Last night over 120 PICTFOR members, parliamentarians and special guests gathered on the House of Lords Cholmondeley Room and Terrace for a lovely evening of speeches, discussion and networking.
The evening sun was a delight on the Lords Terrace and seemed to carry on the warm welcome given to all members by host and PICTFOR Treasurer Lord Harris of Haringey. PICTFOR Co-Chair Chi Onwurah MP then shared some of PICTFOR’s accomplishments over the past year, including a range of debates, exhibitions, dinners and activities designed to increase the understanding of technology issues in the House as well as the level of debate. She also extended a welcome to new PICTFOR members.
Graeme Hobbs, Chairman of Motorola Solutions and sponsor of the evening’s event, welcomed guests and expressed his company’s support of PICTFOR’s aims and objectives.
PICTFOR Co-Chair Stephen Mosley MP discussed the success of the recent Twitter Teach-In and Awards Ceremony, and touched on the forward programme. He encouraged all PICTFOR members to attend the Eighth Annual Parliament & Internet Conference, the largest of its kind, on 31st October 2013.
Finally, keynote speaker John Whittingdale OBE MP, Chair of the Commons Culture, Media and Sport Committee, provided an excellent speech outlining many of his priorities and perspectives on issues of importance to the internet, telecommunications and media sectors. This included a strong interest in getting the balance right on matters such as child safety online, intellectual property rights, privacy and mobile spectrum in order to support British industry and society.
Many thanks to all the parliamentarians, PICTFOR members and guests who could attend and enjoy the evening, as well as the fantastic House of Lords staff.
We look forward to seeing you all again soon!
